I found it facinating how the erra of castles spread to the 4 corners of the known world - then were quickly abandonded as technology made them obsolete. Here's a spot with some of the planet's finest examples.

I was looking at various travel articles and came across a travel idea that's been around since the '70's - it's called WWOOF.
![]() WWOOF stands for World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. Back in the early '70's, a few Londoners wanted to get out of the city and work on farms for the weekends. They formed agreements with farms and the idea bloomed. According to an article in Canada.com, there are over 6,000 farm locations globally. For an annual fee, Farms and members can register and connect. On eDateTravel, you can connect free. http://www.canada.com/travel/Diary+lone+wwoofer/1386246/story.html

As the economy turns inward for many in North America, many more adventurous people are turning tough times into a chance to change careers and even work in an exotic land.
Travel Jobs and Travel Vacation Jobs Are On The Rise.A recent article in MSNBC Travel called "Don’t let a pink slip stop you from traveling" talks about a Wall Street investment banker that went to Thailand to become a master diver, the numerous Yoga opportunities and the chance to take a carpentry course in South America - then work as a volunteer. No doubt the world has changed, making many of us ponder the reasons why we are killing ourselves for our savings - then in a heartbeat the savings disappear. Life is shore and there is a lot of this wonderful planet to see. Find an adventure, use your skill in a developing country. What ever you do - live well.

Going through some
of the solo travel tips on Lonely Planet - I realized some of them are just plain common sense - others are from seasoned traveling types. Here are the main solo travel tips I liked: SOLO TRAVEL TIPS AND GENERAL WHEN TRAVELING ALONE: Lonely Planet offers the following tips for women solo travellers - but these can be applied to any situation: * Pack your common sense. * Try and speak a few words of the local language. ![]() * Avoid flights that arrive late at night. * Explore the area where you are staying thoroughly by daylight: it's important to have your bearings and know any parts to avoid. * If you're taking a taxi, only use registered or government-run ones. If you don't know which they are, go to one of the upmarket hotel chains and get the staff to call one (ask them how much you should expect to pay while you're at it). * Spend a bit extra on a hotel in a decent area: the streets will be safer at night; there will be more security in the hotel. * If you get unwanted attention from men, don't say you'll meet them later to try and get rid of them: they will turn up. Say "no" politely and firmly. * Wear a wedding ring and say you've got seven kids if anyone asks. Yes, you shouldn't have to - but sometimes it's the easiest way to fend off advances. LetsVous lets you search for an ideal solo travel partner in a safe and private environment. Blogging tools allow you to write once, and publish in all your designated sites to share your experiences with your friends and family back home. Have a great adventure!
